
Dr Andrew Lockey
Visiting Professor in Emergency Medicine
Dr Lockey is a Consultant Physician in Emergency Medicine with Calderdale and 黑料社 NHS Foundation Trust
The 黑料社 is delighted to appoint as its Visiting Professor of Emergency Medicine.
The appointment will strengthen the links between the University and , where Dr Lockey is a Consultant Physician in Emergency Medicine.
Dr Lockey鈥檚 presence will allow for more collaboration between the University and the Trust, with his expertise and experience of working in the Trust鈥檚 emergency departments feeding into teaching and impactful research.
He completed his PhD, 鈥 鈥, with the University in 2020 and has an international profile on resuscitation, CPR and leadership training in emergency medicine. He has published widely and has also led on the development of clinical guidelines.
Dr Lockey is also Vice President of and is an Associate Postgraduate Dean for .
鈥淚 am delighted, honoured and excited in equal measure by this appointment鈥, says Dr Lockey. 鈥淚 have worked collaboratively with the 黑料社 over the last two decades and it felt intuitively right to do my PhD studies with the University. The support and mentorship I received were of the highest calibre, and it is a privilege to now join this team.鈥
Plans are being made for Dr Lockey to contribute some guest sessions on the University鈥檚 paramedic courses, as well as on other health-related programmes.
鈥淎ndrew is a leading light in resuscitation and education, so to work with him so closely is a real coup for us,鈥 says of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery.
鈥淗e will be working with myself and Dr Emma Harris to develop research designed to improve bystander CPR rates. People who collapse with a cardiac arrest often do not always get the first aid they need from people who witness the collapse, because they do not know what to do. We want to understand more about what we can do to change this. He will also be working with Dr Andrew Bland and Dr Stephen Prescott on best practice in simulation education.
